Laser Hair Removal
You will feel something. If you are not feeling slight pinching or poking, the treatment is ineffective and more sessions will be required. Laser hair removal shouldn't put you in extreme pain, but if nothing is felt during your treatment, chances are nothing is being done.
No, our clients have to come in shaved for treatment, so shave all you want! Just do not use tweezers to pluck your unwanted hair or wax. This will make your next treatment ineffective. The hair needs to be present for the laser to treat it, just not above the surface. So shaving is fine, waxing and plucking is not.
No, lasers will not cause any damage to your body, unless used incorrectly. The radiation is not harmful, only to the unwanted hair! But we want that destroyed!
No, bring her in! Laser hair removal is completely safe at her age.
Some will grow back after your very first treatment. It will get thinner and thinner each session until the area you are treating is hair free. In between sessions, the hair may grow and break off, this is normal. It just means your hair is reacting positively to the laser.
A skin reaction is normal. I like to see reddening of the skin, this only means your body's reaction to the treatment is a good one and your hair removal will be successful. The reaction to the skin is normal and will not last long, it will go down within the hour or two.
A beam of light passes through the skin to the intended target. The target for hair removal is the melanin, present in all hair follicles. The melanin absorbs this light, disabling or impeding the hair's regrowth.
Hair grows in three phases: the anagen phase, in which the hair contains an abundance of melanin; the catagen phase, in which the lower part of your hair stops growing; and the telogen phase, in which your old hair falls out in order to make room for the new hair.
There are many methods to remove unwanted hair, such as plucking, shaving, waxing, electrolysis, and chemical depilatories. The problem with these options is that all (except for electrolysis) are only temporary. The safest, easiest, quickest, and most effective way is using lasers. Fusion uses the best hair removal lasers on the market. We use Alexandrite and YAG technology.
Electrolysis is a painful process in which a needle is inserted into each hair follicle. An electrical charge is delivered to each follicle, destroying them one at a time. Since electrolysis usually requires years of treatments delivered at regular intervals, it is relatively expensive and time-consuming. Laser hair removal allows hundreds of hair follicles to be treated at once, so it is faster and more effective, and many patients who have had both electrolysis and laser hair removal note that laser hair removal is more convenient and less painful.
Laser hair removal is most effective on darker hair; because laser hair removal targets the melanin in your hair, blonde or gray hair do not respond as well to treatment. If you have no history of abnormal scarring, excessive sun exposure, allergies, or herpes infection, you're more likely to experience excellent results with few side effects, no matter what your skin type. Fusion Skin Spa is happy to set up a consultation for you to determine if you are a prime candidate for laser hair removal.
Laser hair removal can help eliminate hair from just about anywhere on the body. Here are a few examples: Face (including but not limited to upper lip and cheeks), neck, shoulders, underarms, arms, hands, chest, back, buttocks, bikini line, abdomen, feet and legs.
Yes. The FDA has approved the laser used by Fusion Skin Spa as safe and effective for all skin types.
As previously mentioned, hair grows in cycles. Because the laser is only effective on the active growing (anagen) hair, at any one time there will only be a certain amount of hair in which the treatment will be effective. Most clients require at least six treatments, and with each treatment, you will see a reduction in hair growth.
Each session depends on the amount of hair and size of the area to be treated; due to this, sessions can range anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.
Generally speaking you can come back to be treated every 4 - 6 weeks.
Absolutely! After only one treatment, you'll notice that most of your ingrowns will be gone.
Following your treatment, you may experience a slight reddening or swelling of the skin that should resolve anywhere from a few hours to a few days. In rare instances, temporary pigment changes may occur, but these should disappear in a few months.
During your treatment, you will wear goggles as a safety precaution to protect your eyes from any accidental exposure to the laser light. There may be an odor of singed hair, which is normal, and afterward, you may experience some temporary redness and swelling, which typically resolves within a few hours to a few days.
